Your Life Path Kanji

Your birthday has a kanji. Add up the digits of your birth date until a single digit remains, or until you reach a Master Number. That number is your Life Path Number — and here, we write it as a single kanji, a Japanese character with a quiet story of its own.

The 13 Life Path Kanji, in Number Order

Each Life Path Number has its own kanji, listed here in number order. Find yours above, or look up a friend's.

Life Path numbers come from Western numerology. The kanji are our own pairing, not a traditional Japanese practice.

How it works

What is a Life Path Number?

In numerology, your Life Path Number comes from your birth date. Life Path numerology comes from the Western tradition, often linked to Pythagoras. We publish our method so you can check it yourself:

  1. Write out your birth date (year, month, day) and add every digit together.
  2. If the total has two digits, add those digits again. Repeat until one digit remains — unless you reach a Master Number (see below).
  3. If the total becomes 11, 22, 33, or 44 along the way, we stop there. These are called Master Numbers.

Example: July 15, 1990

1+9+9+0+0+7+1+5 = 32 → 3+2 = 5

Example: December 31, 1975

1+9+7+5+1+2+3+1 = 29 → 2+9 = 11 (Master Number)

Numerology traditions differ in how they handle Master Numbers. This is the method used throughout Kazu no Shirube.

From Japan

Why kanji?

Kazu no Shirube is a small numerology site made in Japan. Its name means “a signpost of numbers.”

In Japanese, a single kanji can hold a whole feeling — a place, a wish, a way of living. We chose one kanji for each number, drawing on the meanings our site gives to that number. This pairing is our own interpretation as a Japanese site, not a traditional Japanese practice such as Nine Star Ki. Every kanji carries its own quiet strength.

The kanji are shown in a brush-style typeface inspired by Japanese calligraphy. The reading shown is the verb form where one exists, as in 彩る (irodoru).

Your birth date stays with you

Your number is calculated in your browser, and your birth date is never sent to a server. So that you don't have to enter it again next time, it is saved only in your own browser (local storage, under the name “kz_birth”) when you press “Reveal my kanji.” You can remove it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

The kanji card image is also made in your browser and is not uploaded anywhere.
